Here is a little history on the library taken from the book "140 Years of Darlington Community History Bicentennial Edition"
The suggestion that Darlington might be able to have a public library was made to the Book Lovers' Club by Mrs. Norma Peterson after she had visited the library at Monon, Indiana. The Club then began a correspondence with the State Library Commission to get the necessary information to procure a Carnegie Library.
A collection of one hundred and thirty books was made by members of the Book Lovers' Club, and by former members of the Inter Nos Club. These were placed in the town hall, where every Saturday afternoon this library was kept open to the public. Later these books were moved to the Rettinger Studio, where for eighteen months, members of the club took turns in keeping this library open on Saturday afternoons and evenings. During this time a petition was circulated asking for a tax levy on property in both town and township. The town board and township trustee agreed to levy one mill on the dollar for the support of a Library.
The Carnegie Commission appropriated $10,000 for the building, and a lot was bought from I.N. Larrick, by the town board, advisory board, and by subscriptions from citizens of the community. The building was designed by Hubert Peterson, a former Darlington boy. It is modern in every respect. The main room contains the library proper and a reading room. In the basement is an auditorium, where many public meetings of both town and township are held. On December 29, 1915, the library was dedicated with a very appropriate service. The speaker was Emerson Ballard of Crawfordsville. At the service two hundred and fifty volumes were donated.

Since this was written in 1976 the library has seen a big change. Although the original Carnegie Library has stayed the same over the years there is now a nice new addition added on.
